Bae Ji-hwan is on pace to reach 100 hits in a single season in the big leagues
Bae Ji-hwan (24) of the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball (MLB) has hit safely in six consecutive games. The 24-year-old will continue his quest for 100 hits in a single season at the big league level.
Bae went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI while batting seventh and playing center field in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2023 Major League Baseball home game against the Washington Nationals at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S., on Wednesday.먹튀검증
It didn’t start out well. In his first at-bat in the second inning, a well-placed pitch was hit straight to the shortstop.
His second at-bat in the bottom of the fifth also failed to produce a hit. With Pittsburgh down 1-4, he struck out against Washington starter Patrick Corbin. On a one-pitch, two-strike at-bat, he swung wildly and turned to the dugout.
The hit he was waiting for came in his third at-bat. Bae doubled off Corbin with two outs in the top of the seventh inning with Pittsburgh trailing 6-1.
On a one-ball, one-strike at-bat, he pulled Corbin’s three-pitch slider. The ball trickled past the first baseman and into the right-field corner, allowing Bae to run all the way to second base.
Bae then tried for a multi-hit game in his final at-bat in the bottom of the ninth, but struck out. With the bases loaded and no outs, he fouled off Perez on a full count and was retired on a foul tip.
Bae maintained his season average at .245 (70-for-286). While he was unable to record a multi-hit game, he continued his hot hitting streak with a six-game hitting streak beginning on June 6 against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Bae previously had a six-game hitting streak this season from May 18 against the Detroit Tigers to May 27 against the Seattle Mariners. If he gets a hit against the Nats on May 13, he will break his own big league record for most consecutive games with a hit.
In his first year in the big leagues, Bae impressed with 33 hits and 11 RBIs in 2022. This year, he’s showing significant improvement. With 19 games remaining in the regular season, the foundation is in place for Pittsburgh to challenge for a single-season triple-digit RBI total.
After joining the Pirates in 2018 and slowly working his way up through the minors, he was promoted to the big leagues last year and has been given consistent playing time and a spot on Pittsburgh’s major league roster.
