Freeman homers for 25th, doubles for 51st…Dodgers win again, sweep Arizona for ‘fourth straight’
The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to four games with a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Dodgers swept their 2023 Major League Baseball home opener against Arizona 7-0 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, on April 31. Freddie Freeman hit two long balls, his 25th homer and 51st double.
With the three-game sweep, the Dodgers have won four straight and are 83-49 (.629 winning percentage), good for first place in the National League West. Arizona, which lost its third straight, remained in third place in the NL West with a 69-65 record and the fourth wild-card spot.
The Dodgers jumped out to a four-run lead with two home runs in the third inning. Mookie Betts led off the inning with an infield single off Arizona right-hander Brandon Potts, followed by Freeman’s two-run shot to center field. It was Freeman’s 25th home run of the season.
A bases-loaded walk was followed by Jason Heyward’s 13th home run of the season.
In the fourth inning, Austin Barnes singled to right and Freeman doubled to right to put runners on second and third before Muncy blasted a two-run double to right to extend the lead to 6-0. It was Freeman’s 51st double of the season, which puts him in first place overall in that category. Arithmetically, Freeman has 62 possible doubles, making him the first player in 87 years to hit 60 or more doubles in a season since Joe Medwick of the St. Louis Cardinals (64) and Charlie Gehringer of the Detroit Tigers (60) in 1936.
The Dodgers added another run in the sixth when Chris Taylor singled to left and stole second, followed by Muncy’s RBI single to right. Muncy finished 2-for-3, Freeman had two hits and two RBIs, and Mookie Betts had two hits and a walk.먹튀검증
Behind the hot bats, Dodgers starter Ryan Peavy earned his first win of the season. He shut down the Arizona lineup over five innings of two-hit ball with one walk and three strikeouts, using a four-seam fastball that topped out at 95.1 mph (153.0 km/h) and averaged 93.7 mph (150.8 km/h), a changeup (46), and a slider (31).
