LPGA Matchplay quarter-finals condensed… Huroue-Maguire, Grant-Annarucan
The US Women’s Professional Golf (LPGA) Tour’s match-play supremacy is down to a best-of-four showdown between Ayaka Furue (JPN), Riona Maguire (IRL), Pajari Annanarukarn (THA) and Lynn Grant (SWE).
World No. 18 Ayaka Furue defeated world No. 11 Celine Boutier (FRA) 2&1 (down two with one hole to play) in the quarter-finals of the Bank of Hope Match Play ($1.5 million) at Shadow Creek GC (Par 72-6804) in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, on Monday. After finishing runner-up in the final of this event last year to Ji-Hee Ji, Hsu won five straight matches from the group stage to reach the last four and earn her second LPGA Tour victory.
World No. 19 Maguire defeated Lindsay Weaver Wright (USA) 3&2 to reach the semi-finals after also winning five straight matches from the group stage. Maguire will be looking to make it two wins in a row since becoming the first Irishwoman to win an LPGA title at the LPGA Drive-On Championship in February last year.
World No. 98 Anannarukyan defeated Carlota Zimda (Spain) 3&2 in the quarter-finals, while Lynn Grant beat Alban Valenzuela (Switzerland) 3&1.
Ananarukarn will be looking for her second LPGA title since the ISPS Handa World Invitational in August 2021, while Grant, who missed the US event due to not having received a COVID-19 vaccine, will be looking for her first LPGA Tour title.
South Korea has eight players in the field, including last year’s winner Ji-hee Ji, as well as Kim Se-young, Lee Jeong-six, An Na-lin, Yoo So-yeon and Shin Ji-eun, but none of them made it to the last 16.
World No. 4 Lilia Boo (USA) and world No. 8 Brooke Henderson (Canada), who were seeded No. 1 in the tournament, were also upset in the group stage.안전놀이터
