‘More than a core’ Park Joo-ho’s sudden retirement…Lee Seung-woo “heartbroken but respectful of choice”

Lee Seung-woo expressed his regret and support for the sudden retirement of a key player.

Suwon FC lost 0-2 to Gwangju FC in the 15th round of the Hana OneQ K League 1 2023 at Suwon Sports Complex at 6pm on the 28th.

With the result, Suwon FC dropped to ninth place with 15 points from four wins, three draws and eight losses in 15 games. Gwangju regained eighth place with five wins, three draws, seven losses and 18 points from 15 matches.

Lee Seung-woo came on as a first-half substitute and played until the end of the game. He provided a link between the attacking and defensive areas, but was unable to find a way through. Suwon FC as a whole seemed to be outplayed by Gwangju.먹튀검증

It was a lethargic game. Suwon FC spent most of the game fending off Gwangju’s onslaught. Even their counterattacks were blunt. Mistakes continued to be made in the heavy rain. In the end, Gwangju scored back-to-back goals from Timo and Asani in the second half to secure the three points.

Speaking to MixedZone after the game, Lee said, “It was an important game and it’s too bad we lost at home. I wanted to win as much as possible at home, and there were fans who supported us until the end, but it’s a shame we couldn’t win.”

Suwon FC head coach Kim Do-gyun was unusually bitter after the frustrating performance. “It was an unprofessional performance,” he said at the post-match press conference. “Our mobility was also a problem. The veteran players like Park Joo-ho and Lee Yong-soo were playing more. The younger players couldn’t cope with it.”

“The coach also talked to the players. (Park) Joo-ho and (Lee) Yong-hyung are core players who are very active. They play so well that they are still playing at their age. They deserve respect,” he said.

He left a message full of regret and support for the retirement of key players. Coach Kim Do-gyun personally announced Park’s retirement at the pre-match press conference.

“Suwon FC will be most disappointed. He is an influential player on and off the pitch. The difference between having Park and not having Park is very big. It was the same last year and this year. He is still the most active player in our team. He’s still the most active player on our team, so we’re losing a huge resource as a teammate.”

“I think the club will be the most disappointed. They’re in a relegation battle, and he’s more important than me or Lars. He’s more than a key resource. We’ve been talking about it, me and (Lee) Yong-yong and the other brothers, but it’s his choice. He has another life. I respect the choice, but it hurts to lose someone so important. We’ll have to see him often to support his second life.”
