The NBA Secretariat announced the result of this disciplinary action on the 15th and said, “Dallas’ behavior of not using key players in the game against the Chicago Bulls last week harmed the league.”

In the game against Chicago on the 8th, Dallas put Kyrie Irving, Tim Hardaway Jr., Josh Green, Maxy Clever, and Christian Wood on the bench, and Luka Doncic only played 13 minutes. Chicago won the game 115-112. With the loss, Dallas was eliminated from the playoffs.

Dallas actually preferred defeat to victory in this game because a previous trade with the New York Knicks meant they had to lower their ranks to keep their draft picks. Dallas owner Mark Cuban paid a $600,000 fine in 2018 for intentionally lowering the rankings.
