“We’ll see what happens” How to fill Suarez’s ‘four-week absence’ void
The Samsung Lions have lost Albert Suarez to injury, and his absence will be filled by the second team.
Suarez was removed from the first-team roster for the Samsung Lions’ 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League match against the Doosan Bears on Aug. 8 at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul. The reason: injury.
Suarez, who started against Daegu LG on Nov. 6, complained of pain in his left calf while running to cover first base on Kim Hyun-soo’s single to right in the top of the first inning after the score was tied 0-0. Limping and complaining of pain, Suarez was eventually replaced by right-hander Lee Seung-hyun and taken to the hospital for further examination.
The examination revealed that his left gastrocnemius (calf muscle) was damaged by about 12 centimeters. He is expected to take about four weeks to recover.
We won’t see Suarez in August. In the month of July, Suarez went 2-0 with a zero earned run average in three games. He didn’t allow a single run in 19 innings pitched, and his strong performance helped the team rebound.
For now, it was important for Samsung to fill Suarez’s void.
Park Jin-man said, “We will fill Suarez’s spot with a starting pitcher from the second team. We haven’t decided on anyone. We’ll have to wait and see.”먹튀검증
In Park’s opinion, the mound in Pohang played a role in Suarez’s injury.
Suarez pitched 5⅓ innings and gave up five runs against the Pohang KIA on April 1. “He kept telling me that he was uncomfortable during the game,” Park said. The mound in Pohang is high, and the part of the foot that lands is steep. It’s hard to shift your weight. So Suarez himself asked the umpire to give him time (to adjust),” Park said. “It’s good if you can use such a mound well, but players who can’t use it have problems with their physical strength and balance. I think it had a little bit of an effect.”
